EPA finds toxic chemicals at Houston community center
Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis, Congressman Sylvester Turner, and County Attorney Christian Menefee discuss the Environmental Protection Agency’s findings of dioxin contamination at Julia C. Hester House, a community center operated by the Office of Commissioner Ellis, that provides programs for adults and youth. Hester House soil sampling, which is part of the Union Pacific Railroad investigation related to potential contamination from the former Houston Wood Preserving Works in Fifth Ward, shows there are levels of dioxin, a group of highly toxic chemical compounds that are harmful to health.
