The man who fell from a Carnival cruise ship spent as many as 20 hours in the water before he was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard. The diver who made the dramatic rescue, Richard Hoefle, spoke with LiveNOW from FOX's Josh Breslow.

A police chase involving a possible stolen car in rattled drivers trying to get a jump on holiday travel in Los Angeles County. FOX 11's SkyFOX was over the chase scene in the San Gabriel Valley as the suspect lead authorities on a pursuit. Over the course of the chase, the suspect was seen driving recklessly on the freeway, trying to beat the holiday traffic by driving off the road, weaving dangerously around nearby cars and then driving on the wrong side of the road. At one point during the chase, the suspect was spotted pulling over to the side of the road and then dropping off multiple passengers from the car. Officials did not say where the car may have been stolen from.

A federal jury found that Los Angeles County must pay Kobe Bryant’s widow $16 million for emotional distress caused by deputies and firefighters sharing photos of the bodies of the NBA star and his daughter taken at the site of the 2020 helicopter crash that killed them. The nine jurors who returned the unanimous verdict agreed with Vanessa Bryant and her attorneys that the photos of the remains of Kobe Bryant and their 13-year-old daughter Gianna invaded her privacy and brought her emotional distress. The jury deliberated for 4 1/2 hours before reaching the verdict. Vanessa Bryant cried quietly as it was read. An attorney for the county declined comment on the verdict outside the courtroom. The pictures were shared mostly between employees of the LA County sheriff’s and fire departments including by some who were playing video games and attending an awards banquet. They were also seen by some of their spouses and in one case by a bartender at a bar where a deputy was drinking. Vanessa Bryant tearfully testified during the 11-day trial that news of the photos compounded her still-raw grief a month after losing her husband and daughter, and that she still has panic attacks at the thought that they might still be out there. “I live in fear every day of being on social media and these popping up,” she testified. “I live in fear of my daughters being on social media and these popping up.” Her co-plaintiff Chris Chester, whose wife and daughter were also among the nine people killed in the crash, was awarded $15 million. The jury returned its verdict on Kobe Bryant Day, which is celebrated on Aug. 24 because it uses both of his jersey numbers — 8 and 24 — and is the day after his birthday. Tuesday would have been Kobe’s 44th birthday.

Shocking video shows a good Samaritan coming to the rescue of an elderly man being attacked and robbed in Hollywood. Surveillance video shows a person sucker punch an elderly man getting tackled by a business owner. Tim Ratcliff ran down the wannabe thief after he took the victim's phone and wallet. "I took him down and just waited there until the police arrived," Ratcliff said. Ratcliff is seen tackling the thief into the intersection of La Brea and Hollywood. Ratcliff's girlfriend and another witness helped until police arrived. In the video, Ratcliff is seen holding down the suspect for nearly nine minutes. "I was not gonna lie, the adrenaline was a lot at that point, and afterwards it was exhausting it felt like I had worked out the next day for quite a bit." The incident happened the same day the Los Angeles Police Department announced they are adding 200 officers to the Hollywood division to address the spike in crime. "Even one of the officers and I talked about it… they're tired of it… a lot of people like myself are tired of this type of thing happening... we're seeing more and more people just not putting up with it and taking it into their own hands… which I'm glad for… and I'd happily do it again," he said.
