Schumer says Dems will vote 'no' on funding bill

Schumer says Dems will vote 'no' on funding bill

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Saturday night that Democrats would block the funding bill set for consideration next week if it includes funding for the Department of Homeland Security. Schumer's statement comes in response to the death of a 37-year-old man who was shot and killed by a federal agent in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Saturday morning. The bill needs 60 votes to pass, and the GOP needs Democrat support to get there. The funding bill includes money for both ICE and Border Patrol, two agencies that fall under the DHS umbrella. A Border Patrol agent shot and killed Alex Pretti Saturday morning, only a few weeks after an ICE agent shot and killed Renee Good.
