We watched earlier today as Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth was questioned about the Iran war before Congress. Secretary Hegseth spent much of the day testifying about the military’s budget. This comes as President Donald Trump reportedly rejected Iran's offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz if the United States ends its blockade. LiveNOW’s Austin Westfall is speaking with national security analyst Hal Kempfer as Hegseth says, “this budget grows our force by almost 50,000." 

We are learning the latest after former FBI Director James Comey appeared in federal court in Virginia just a day after he was indicted over a ​social media post. Prosecutors allege that the post, which featured an arrangement of seashells, threatened President Donald Trump. The two-count indictment charges Comey with "knowingly and willfully" making a threat to "take the life of, and to inflict bodily harm upon" Trump and with transmitting a threat in interstate commerce. 

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz delivered his final State of the State Address Tuesday night at the State Capitol. Walz, a former Vice Presidential candidate, initially said he was going to seek reelection in 2026. However, he later withdrew from the race, stating that an "extraordinarily difficult year for our state" made it impossible for him to fully commit to a political campaign. We watched this week as Cole Tomas Allen, the 31‑year‑old suspect in the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting, made his first court appearance. Early reports have indicated that Allen allegedly told law enforcement after his arrest that he intended to target officials associated with President Donald Trump’s administration. We watched today as King Charles III addressed a joint session of Congress during his visit to the United States. His trip is meant to mark the 250th anniversary of the one-time British colony’s independence. Before the address, Charles and Queen Camilla returned to the White House for a traditional military arrival ceremony. We are now watching an update from acting United States Attorney General Todd Blanche after former FBI Director James Comey was indicted in an investigation over a social media photo of seashells arranged on a beach. Officials have said the Instagram post from Comey constituted a threat against President Donald Trump. Kash Patel, the current Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, also spoke during the press conference. Comey previously said he believed the shell arrangement was intended as a political statement rather than a call for violence. 

Cole Tomas Allen appeared in court on Monday. He is reportedly facing charges including attempted assassination of the president and firearms offenses after the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting. Allen’s sister, who lives in Maryland, told investigators her brother had legally purchased several weapons from a California gun store and kept them at their parents’ home.
