His speech came approximately two months after he publicly disclosed he had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. The National Bar Association is the oldest and largest network of African American lawyers, judges and law academics in the country. During his remarks, Biden touted his and his administration's efforts to uplift and better represent the Black community. He called on gala attendees to "lead the charge" in fighting for American constitutional rights, and "chart the course" for the next 100 years of the National Bar Association.

Police say they have arrested 29-year-old Shotsie Michael Buck after he allegedly set a Virginia councilman on fire. Buck is accused of confronting Danville City Council member Lee Vogler, dousing him with a flammable liquid, and then setting him on fire. He is being charged with attempted first degree murder and aggravated malicious wounding following the attack.
