RIDGECREST, Fla. - A death investigation is underway after an incident involving a 13-foot alligator near 134th Avenue North and 121st Street in Pinellas County, authorities said. The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to the area at around 1:50 p.m. for reports of a body seen in the waterway. According to the sheriff's office, a 13-foot, 8.5-inch alligator was killed and removed from the waterway, with the help of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). Deputies assigned to the PCSO Dive Team also recovered the remains of a deceased adult from the waterway.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection gave no explanation for its decision to stop scheduling new appointments via the CBP One app for the crossing in Laredo, Texas. Several asylum-seekers told The Associated Press that Mexican officials in Nuevo Laredo, across the border from Laredo, Texas, had threatened to hold them and make them miss their scheduled asylum appointments unless they paid them. Humanitarian groups in Laredo say they had recently warned CBP of the problems and that certain groups were controlling access to the international crossing on the Mexican side.

Family shot to death inside home in Illinois

An entire family was shot to death in their Romeoville, IL home over the weekend. Within hours of the shooting, police identified Nathaniel Huey Jr., and a woman, who was in a relationship with Huey, as the persons of interest. When authorities attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the vehicle then tried to evade officers, resulting in a fiery, single-vehicle crash.
