Israel launched new strikes against Hamas Monday and promised ‘increasing military force’ after talks on further hostage releases stalled. Early Friday morning, Israel’s Prime Minister’s office said it instructed the army to strike Hamas across Gaza. The statement said it was because of Hamas’ repeated refusals to release its hostages and its rejection of all offers it received from the U.S. presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and mediators. The strikes come after nearly two months of a ceasefire to pause the 17-month long war where dozens of hostages were released for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. Israel carried out airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, southern Lebanon and southern Syria on Monday, killing at least 10 people, including a child, according to local authorities. The Israeli military said it was targeting militants plotting attacks. The airstrikes were the latest in what have been frequent and often deadly attacks by Israeli forces during the fragile ceasefires in Gaza and Lebanon. Israel has blocked all food, medicine, fuel and other supplies from entering Gaza the past two weeks, demanding Hamas accept changes in the two sides’ ceasefire deal.

The search for the American college student missing in the Dominican Republic entered its 11th day. Joshua Riibe has not been named a suspect or charged with a crime, authorities have labeled him a "key element" in the case. Dominican officials confiscated his passport several days ago when he attempted to check out of the hotel. Trump accused former President Joe Biden of not knowing the pardons and insisted the necessary documents were never explained to him.

One U.S. official told Reuters the campaign might continue for weeks. The Houthi movement's political bureau described the attacks as a "war crime" and said Houthi forces were ready to "meet escalation with escalation," while Moscow urged Washington to cease the strikes. The Houthis' military spokesperson on Sunday said, without offering evidence, that the group had targeted U.S. aircraft carrier USS Harry S.
