The FBI has made an arrest in its nearly five-year investigation into who planted pipe bombs in Washington on the eve of the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press on Thursday. It is the first time investigators have identified a suspect in a case that has long vexed authorities, fueled conspiracy theories, and remained one of the most persistent mysteries surrounding the violent Capitol siege. The bombs were placed on the evening of Jan. 5 near the Democratic and Republican national committee offices. No one was injured before they were rendered safe, though the FBI has said both devices were potentially lethal.

A 26-year-old Florida man could be spending the rest of his life behind bars following a majot drug bust. Maxwell Horvath was arrested in Brevard County, Florida, after authorities seized 92,000 pounds of an illegal kratom derivative,7-OH, and discovered a cache of weapons and explosives. The operation, uncovered 12 rifles, 17 pistols, and five improvised explosive devices at Horvath’s property.
