Trump to address nation on Iran Wednesday: Here's what to know

President Donald Trump is set to address the nation on Wednesday evening to give an update on the Iran war.

Trump is expected to speak at 9 p.m. ET, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a post on X.

News of the address comes after Trump told reporters on Tuesday that U.S. forces would be leaving the Middle East in "two or three weeks."

What they're saying:

"We will be leaving very soon," Trump said.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio also noted in an interview with FOX News on Tuesday that "we can see the finish line. It’s not tomorrow, but it is coming."

War in Iran

The backstory:

The United States and Israel launched an attack on Iran on Feb. 28.

Iran’s supreme leader, as well as a dozen other leaders, were killed in a matter of days following the surprise attack.

By the numbers:

Thousands of U.S. service members have been sent to the Middle East and 13 have been killed.

Big picture view:

The toll the war has had on global markets is significant and Americans aren’t the only ones feeling the effects.

The average price of gas in the U.S. shot up to $4 this week and businesses around the world are struggling due to the disruption of shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
