Judge rules Britney Spears can pick her own attorney in conservatorship battle

A judge has granted Britney Spears the right to choose her own lawyer in the conservatorship case. According to sources, Spears called into the hearing via phone to tell the judge she wants her father, Jamie Spears, charged with conservatorship abuse. Britney Spears was placed in conservatorship in 2008 after the singer experienced mental-health issues. The singer had called the conservatorship abusive during a June 2020 hearing. Protests outside the courthouse in L.A. and on the National Mall in D.C. called for her release from the legal framework in the ongoing #freebritney movement among her fans and supporters.
