Israel-Hamas War: Israeli leader Benny Gantz quits
In announcing his resignation, Benny Gantz said the government needs to put the return of hostages "above political survival," saying in part that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is making "total victory impossible." Gantz is a former military chief and was, until Sunday, a centrist member of Israel's three-man war Cabinet. Gantz joined Netanyahu's government shortly after Hamas' October 2023 attack in a show of unity. His presence also boosted Israel's credibility with its international partners, as he has good working relations with the United States.
