Well over a half-million Subaru vehicles were recalled over concerns that an incorrectly listed weight rating could lead to a crash. The recall affects four of the Japanese automaker’s most popular models.
Why you should care:
The recall stems from the fact the 541,237 vehicles affected by it list an incorrect Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) on their certification label. The GAWR lists how much of a load can be handled by a single axle system.
By the numbers:
Of the models included in the recall, the vast majority are Ascent SUVs, Subaru’s three-row model, and the affected ones stretch back nearly a decade. Here is a full list of recalled items:
- Subaru Ascent - 2019-2026 - 384,407
- Subaru Forester Hybrid - 2025-2026 - 77,504
- Subaru Forester - 2025-2026 - 49,946
- Subaru Crosstrek - 2026 - 29,380

What you can do:
Subaru plans to mail new certification labels to owners. Owners can have a dealer install them for free, if they choose. The company expects to send letters late next month alerting owners to the misstated GAWR and the risks associated with it.
