More than 300,000 kitchen step stools recalled over injury risk

Dorel Home Furnishings has issued a recall of its Cosco 2-Step Kitchen Stepper because of the fall and injury risk, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

According to the company, the safety bar can detach or break while in use, posing serious fall and injury hazards to consumers.

The recall was issued last month and affects about 302,000, 11,000 of which were sold in Canada. 

The model numbers 11349WHG1E, 11349GRN1E, 11349NVY1E, 11349WHG2, 11349GRN4, 11349GRN12, 11349WHG12C, 11349WHG12W, 11349WHG4F, and 11349CBWH4T. 

The kitchen steppers are available in white/gray, green, navy, and blue colors. The Cosco logo is embossed on the handle, and model details can be found on a label attached to one of the stepper's arms.

Cosco has received 34 reports of the safety bar either detaching or breaking, including two cases that resulted in head injuries.

The items were sold at Target, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Walmart, and BJ’s Wholesale Club stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, Wayfair.com, and Overstock.com from February 2021 through July 2025 for between $56 and $70.

What you can do:

Consumers should immediately stop using the safety bar on the recalled kitchen stepper and keep the stepper out of children's reach until it is repaired.

Customers can also contact Dorel to request a free repair kit with shipping included. The kit features a sliding locking mechanism that secures the safety bar, preventing it from detaching or breaking during use. It also comes with installation instructions and an additional warning label to be affixed to the product.
