Loni Anderson cause of death revealed: Report

The cause of death for Loni Anderson, who starred in the 1980s show "WKRP in Cincinnati," has been revealed, according to reports. 

Anderson died earlier this month, just days before her 80th birthday.

In a death certificate obtained by TMZ, Anderson's cause of death was confirmed to be metastatic uterine leiomyosarcoma, with no other contributing factors listed.

According to the National Organization for Rare Disorders, metastatic uterine leiomyosarcoma "is an extremely rare form of cancer" which starts in the uterus and can spread to other parts of the body, most notably "the lungs and liver often causing life-threatening complications."

Anderson died at a Los Angeles hospital following a "prolonged" illness, said her longtime publicist, Cheryl J. Kagan.

"We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother," Anderson’s family said in a statement.

Wider View: Anderson starred on the big screen alongside Burt Reynolds in the 1983 comedy "Stroker Ace" and the two later married and became tabloid fixtures before divorcing in 1994.

She married four times, most recently to Bob Flick in 2008.

Anderson is survived by Flick, daughter Deidra and son-in law Charlie Hoffman, son Quinton Anderson Reynolds, grandchildren McKenzie and Megan Hoffman, stepson Adam Flick and wife Helene, step-grandchildren Felix and Maximilian.
