At the start of the fourth quarter Sunday, the New England Patriots still had yet to score against the Seattle Seahawks.

The Seahawks were leading 12-0.

Has there ever been a shutout at the Super Bowl?

Big picture view:

No, there has never been a shutout in the history of the Super Bowl.

By the numbers:

Super Bowl LIII in 2019 was the lowest scoring game in history, when the Patriots won 13-3 over the Los Angeles Rams.

Dig deeper:

New England trailed 9-0 at halftime, becoming the 15th team that failed to score a point in the first half of a Super Bowl. The previous 14 teams all lost, including Kansas City last year against Philadelphia and the Rams in Super Bowl 53 against the Patriots.

The Patriots did score with 12:27 left in the fourth quarter, bringing the score to 19-7.
