A founding member of alternative rock band EMF, Derry Brownson, has died at 55 years old after being diagnosed with a brain tumor, the BBC reported

Big picture view:

EMF, who are best known for their 1990 smash hit "Unbelievable," posted about Brownson’s death on Friday, describing him as a "brother in arms."

What they're saying:

"We are devastated, the only solace we can find is that we are eternally grateful Derry was able to join us on stage a couple times just a few short months back," the band wrote. "Nothing will ever be the same again without our band mate and friend, fly high brother Derry. 💔"

The backstory:

EMF became MTV staples in 1991 as "Unbelievable" raced up the charts and hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and earned the album, "Schubert Dip" a Platinum certification.
