Side by side image shows Better Weather Fix Elixer products involved in FDA recall. (FDA).
Better Weather Fix Elixir is recalling all of its bottles of dietary supplements over kratom concerns, expanding upon a recall that was issued earlier this month, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Dig deeper:
Better Weather Actives LLC is voluntarily recalling all lots of Better Weather Fix Elixir 15 ml bottles because the products contain undeclared mitragynine and mitragynine pseudoindoxyl (MP).
MP is a more potent form of kratom.
Consuming kratom can cause a myriad of undesirable symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, hallucinations, anxiety, and even loss of consciousness, according to the FDA.
It could also fatally suppress one’s respiratory system.
So far, there have been no reports of adverse health events.
The bottles were sold and packed in display boxes labeled "Better Weather Fix Elixir" and "Better Weather Fix Elixir Berry."
What you can do:
Consumers who may have purchased these supplements should stop using them immediately and return them for a refund, the FDA advised.
Anyone who may have questions regarding this recall can contact Better Weather Actives LLC at 208-295-4342 or email at recall@betterweatheractives.com from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. MT, Monday through Friday.
What is kratom?
Kratom comes from the leaves of a tropical tree native to Southeast Asia, according to the Department of Justice.
In low doses, kratom can be used as a stimulant, but in high doses, it works as a sedative.
It can lead to psychotic symptoms and psychological and physiological dependence, similar to an opioid addiction.
There have been reports of kratom reacting negatively with other medications and this can sometimes lead to severe effects, such as liver damage and even death, according to the Mayo Clinic.
