LiveNOW’s Andy Mac is speaking with Texas based attorney Sam Bassett after Karmelo Anthony was found guilty of murder in connection with the stabbing death of Austin Metcalf. According to our partners at FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth, the 12-person Collin County jury began deliberating late Tuesday morning after defense attorneys and prosecutors delivered closing arguments. Anthony was charged after the April 2, 2025, death of 17-year-old Metcalf at a stadium in the Dallas suburb of Frisco.

We are getting the latest developments this Monday as Karmelo Anthony's lawyers rested their case in his trial for the fatal stabbing of another student at a high school track meet. Anthony, 19, faces a murder charge for the death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf. Police have said Anthony stabbed Metcalf in the chest with a pocketknife. LiveNOW’s Andy Mac is speaking with criminal defense attorney Matthew Tympanick as Anthony faces a maximum sentence of five to 99 years in prison if convicted of murder. 

We are learning more from law enforcement officials as they say a man who claimed to have accidentally shot his girlfriend ended up turning the gun on himself after a five-hour SWAT standoff at a Texas apartment. According to our partners at FOX 26 Houston, the man, 23, and the woman, 20, both died at the scene. The incident began shortly before 2 p.m. when a man called 911 to report that he had accidentally shot his girlfriend, the sheriff’s office says.

We are now watching as Ken Paxton won a commanding victory in the Republican Senate runoff election. This means the stage is now set for an intense general election between Paxton and his opponent, Democrat James Talarico. Paxton won with 62.6% of the vote, according to the Associated Press. LiveNOW’s Shawna Khalafi is speaking with Jeremy Wallace, a senior political reporter with the Houston Chronicle as incumbent Sen. John Cornyn has lost his runoff election against Texas AG Ken Paxton. The current Attorney General of Texas will face Democratic state Rep. James Talarico in the Nov. 3 general election. Cornyn has held the seat since 2002, at one point serving as the Republican minority whip.

According to our partners at FOX 26 Houston, both GOP candidates were found to be trailing hypothetical head-to-heads against Talarico last month and voters were split then on who was the better challenger for the Austin Democrat. 

We are learning this Tuesday that Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has defeated longtime Senator John Cornyn in a heated primary runoff for the United States Senate. Paxton, a prominent ally of President Donald Trump, has now unseated the 20-year incumbent after Trump targeted Cornyn as "VERY disloyal" in the campaign's final days. Paxton now advances to the general election, where he will face Democratic state Representative James Talarico in a contest that could determine control of the Senate. 

We are now learning that Texas Democratic Congressman Al Green has lost his bid for renomination in the primary runoff for the state’s redrawn 18th Congressional District. After more than 20 years in the House, Green was defeated by fellow Representative Christian Menefee, marking the end of his career in Congress.
