NASA captures photos of Moon crater caused by SpaceX rocket part

A newly released image shows the brand-new crater on the Moon caused by a stray upper stage of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. On Tuesday, NASA showed off the image, which was captured by its Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO).

A large piece of a SpaceX rocket will likely make a crash landing this week — but it is not expected to smash into Earth soon. Instead, the rocket’s upper stage will collide with the moon.
