Tennessee’s Republican-controlled legislature redrew the congressional district of Memphis, which has long enjoyed its own Democratic-leaning U.S. House seat. Now, the city is split into three Republican-leaning districts, its majority-Black population sliced up and bound to mostly white, rural and conservative communities along lines that branch away from Fowler and Wilson’s East Memphis neighborhood. Coast Guard cutter wreckage found 108 years after sinking during WWI
More than 100 years after it was torpedoed by a German submarine during World War I, the wreckage of the iconic Coast Guard Cutter Tampa has been found. According to the U.S. Coast Guard, a British diving team discovered the shipwreck 300 feet deep in the Atlantic Ocean, about 50 miles off Newquay, Cornwall. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will send a team to meet with the American passengers in the Canary Islands, where the ship is set to dock in the coming days. The World Health Organization (WHO) is also working with the multiple countries who have passengers aboard to prepare for their return and quarantine.
