Loved ones of a slain family in California are speaking out for the first time at a news conference with authorities as the investigation continues into the events that led up to an ex-Virginia law enforcement officer driving across the country to meet a teen girl police say he catfished online before killing her mother and grandparents.

The Moscow community is planning to hold a candlelight vigil at the University of Idaho campus this week for the four students killed. According to the university's website, a vigil to honor the memory of Ethan Chapin, 20, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20, and Madison Mogen, 21, is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 5 p.m. PST. In the early morning of Nov. 13, the four students were stabbed and killed in their home near the University of Idaho campus. Moscow police said they have not identified any suspects, zeroed in on a motive or recovered a murder weapon. Some of the victims' cars have also been towed. Until now, those cars had remained in the parking lot outside of the house the students were killed in.

A former Virginia state trooper was killed in a shootout with deputies after he traveled across the country and allegedly killed the mother and grandparents of a teenage girl he "catfished" online, police said. Police say the suspect, 28-year-old Austin Lee Edwards of North Chesterfield, Virginia, may have also set the family's home on fire after killing them. Officials said Edwards had worked for the Virginia State Police and until recently was employed at the Washington County Sheriff's Office in Virginia. The Virginia Police Department has since released a statement saying Edwards was hired and entered the academy July 6, 2021. He graduated Jan. 21, 2022 as a trooper and was assigned to Henrico County, which is within the Richmond Division, the department said. Edwards resigned on Oct. 28, 2022, according to Virginia PD.

The suspect in the deadly LGBTQ nightclub shooting in Colorado Springs, Colorado, made an initial appearance in court by video and was held without bail. In a brief video appearance from jail, 22-year-old Anderson Lee Aldrich could be seen slumped in a chair, with visible injuries on the side of their face.

A shooting at a Walmart in Chesapeake, Virginia, has left at least six people dead and others injured after a suspect entered the store and opened fire. The suspect, who police said was an employee at the Walmart, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. Police have not released any details on the victims or the possible motive of the suspected shooter.

A suspect takes police on a wild chase throughout the Dallas area. It started on the highway, before the suspect took off on foot, and ultimately was left with no choice but to surrender after a police K9 became involved.
