'The Voice' singer Dylan Carter dies at 24: What to know

Dylan Carter, a country singer from South Carolina who once competed on "The Voice," has died. He was 24 years old. 

His death was also announced by the Local Voice, a South Carolina non-profit organization he co-founded to benefit women battling cancer.

"With heavy hearts we share the passing of Dylan Carter, co-founder of The Local Voice, talented musician, and someone who meant so much to our community," the organization wrote Sunday on its Facebook page. "Dylan was the heart of what we do. He believed every voice matters and lived that every day. Through his music, his kindness, and his smile, he brought people together and made everyone feel seen."

Described by the group as a "proud Lowcountry native," Carter owned Sunny Days RV & Campground and worked as a realtor.

They added: "We are heartbroken, but find comfort knowing he is in heaven with his mother. We are so grateful for Dylan, for the love he gave this community, and for the impact he leaves behind. We will carry his light forward and continue this mission in his honor. Please keep his family in your prayers in the coming weeks as they navigate this tremendous loss."

Dylan Carter dies in car accident

Officials also confirmed his death to multiple media outlets. 

According to law enforcement, a person was killed Saturday night, April 25, in a single-car accident around 11:42 p.m. on Lowcountry Highway and Smakes in Colleton County, TMZ and other news outlets noted.

The victim was not identified, but according to local reports, it was Carter. 

The singer was scheduled to perform in the Town of Moncks Corner on Monday. This show has since been canceled.

Carter grew up in St. George, South Carolina, about 50 miles away from Charleston.

Carter appeared on "The Voice" Season 24 in 2023.

Carter impressed the show’s judges in 2023 with his audition performance of Whitney Houston’s "I Look to You."

According to TMZ, his performance made all four judges turn their chairs around in a show of support.

On "The Voice," Carter picked Reba McEntire as his coach. He told the judges he'd loved music since he was a little kid and his audition was a tribute to his mom, who died the year before his audition.
