Popular 'Revenge of the Nerds' and 'Bloodsport' actor Donald Gibb dead at 71

Donald Gibb, the towering actor best known for playing the popular brute "Ogre" in comedy classic Revenge of the Nerds, has died at the age of 71, according to multiple reports. 

Gibb died Tuesday at his home in Texas, according to TMZ. The actor's son confirmed to them the passing came after ongoing health complications. 

Known for portraying brooding biker-type figures or any role that called for an imposing physique, he was a mainstay in 80s cinema and television. 

Born in New York City in 1954, Gibb initially pursued athletics before transitioning into acting. He briefly played professional football, attending both University of New Mexico and the University of San Diego before moving on to Hollywood, according to the Internet Movie Database.

Gibb became a recognizable face in the 1980s, in part due to his 6-foot-4 frame and comedic presence. While the bully "Ogre" became one of his signature characters, fans may also remember him playing alongside Jean-Claude Van Damme as Ray Jackson in Bloodsport. He also had various roles in numerous TV shows, such as MacGyver, Quantum Leap, HBO’s 1st & Ten, the A-Team, Seinfeld, and The X-Files.  

Other roles later in his career include multiple Revenge of the Nerds sequels, Bloodsport 2 in 1996, U.S. Marshals in 1998, Hancock with Will Smith in 2008 and several others.
