More people crowdfunded for basic needs like food in 2025, GoFundMe report finds

GoFundMe’s 2025 Year in Help report shows global generosity reaching new heights, with people making an average of 2.5 donations every second as individuals and nonprofits rallied to support one another through rising needs and crises.

By the numbers:

According to the crowdfunding site, this year, people made over 47 million donations to individual fundraisers and 32 million donations to nonprofits.

They also helped spread the word by sharing fundraisers more than 72 million times. 

More than 155,000 people started a fundraiser for a nonprofit, and almost half were doing it for the first time—showing they wanted not just to give, but to inspire others. 

Charity was the fastest-growing category this year, followed by Monthly Bills and Faith. Altogether, this shows how the platform is powered by individual generosity and by nonprofits using GoFundMe to support their missions.

Ireland ranked as the Most Generous Country for the seventh year in a row. This year’s list also marks the 10th anniversary of GoFundMe in Australia, which continues to be one of the world’s most generous nations. The Most Generous Countries of 2025, measured by donors per capita, are:

Across the platform, 2025 highlighted a powerful truth: people consistently show up for one another. More fundraisers were created to support food banks than for any other community cause, underscoring how deeply communities care about fighting hunger. 

As essential-expense fundraising rose by 20%, people stepped in to help—directly supporting individuals and donating to nonprofits that provide critical resources, especially for those facing food insecurity.

Beyond food support, more than 95,000 people turned to GoFundMe to pursue their dream of starting a business, and momentum for business fundraisers continued to grow. 

Volunteer-related fundraisers tripled, and the community rallied during crises, raising $330 million for natural disaster relief. Olympic hopefuls and young athletes found support from over 95,000 donors, and educators received much-needed help as fundraising for school supplies surged more than 50%.

Big picture view:

According to GoFundMe, since 2010, people have helped raise more than $40 billion on the platform, benefiting over 166,000 nonprofits.
