Judge denies Karmelo Anthony's motion for new trial

Retired District Judge Michael Chitty denied Karmelo Anthony’s request for a new trial, upholding his murder conviction and 35-year prison sentence. The ruling followed allegations that legal rights were violated, including the mishandling of an oral agreement regarding evidence and the removal of the original judge for lack of impartiality. Anthony’s legal challenge will proceed through a direct appeal. Anthony was convicted in June of stabbing and killing Austin Metcalf during an altercation at a Frisco track meet. Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
