Sleeping next to your dog: Does it impact your sleep?

A new study indicates that while sharing a bed with a dog does not significantly impact human sleep quality, it is actually the humans who frequently disrupt their pets' rest. Researchers monitored 25 people and 38 dogs using wrist and collar activity trackers to analyze objective sleep data over a four-week period. The tracking data revealed that human movement preceded canine activity approximately 45% of the time, whereas restless dogs only triggered human movement 18% of the time. Though roughly half of the human participants reported a subjective feeling of interrupted sleep from co-sleeping, the physical monitor data showed no significant decline in their actual sleep duration or quality. One of the researchers, Ming Fei Li, joins LiveNOW's Andy Mac to discuss the study and its findings.
