We are getting the latest updates out of New York City after a number of streets were closed Tuesday afternoon as the police urged residents to avoid an area near Gracie Mansion. This is the official residence of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. LiveNOW’s Mike Pache is speaking with Linda Schmidt from FOX 5 New York after police announced that a suspicious device was found near Carl Schurz Park. NYPD officials have since said the device had been cleared and was determined to be non-threatening. 

We are learning new information today about the two individuals accused of bringing explosives to a protest outside the official residence of the Mayor of New York. The pair of teens have been charged with attempting to provide material support to ISIS, use of a weapon of mass destruction, and related offenses. We are hearing this Sunday from Governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, as New York City is bracing for its first blizzard in more than a decade. This comes as major snowfall still remains across much of the state. According to our partners at Fox Weather, total accumulations for the New York City area are expected to be between 16 and 24 inches, while parts of New Jersey could see 20–30 inches. Governor Hochul’s remarks came after New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani declared a state of emergency for the city’s five boroughs. 

We are learning more tonight after a car drove into the side of Chabad Lubavitch Headquarters in Brooklyn, according to NYPD. According to police on the scene, officers arrived and found a gray car, which had collided into the bottom entrance door of the building. According to the NYPD, the operator of the car was taken into custody. An investigation is currently ongoing as the identity of the individual who rammed the synagogue is currently unknown. We are getting more information this week as President Donald Trump says that his administration will cut funding to sanctuary cities beginning next month. This comes after a federal judge denied the Trump administration's attempt to cut funding to sanctuary jurisdictions in April 2025. LiveNOW’s Mike Pache is speaking with FOX 5 New York’s Morgan McKay as leaders of sanctuary jurisdictions say their communities are safer because immigrants feel they can communicate with local police without fear of deportation. 

We are learning more after there was a police-involved shooting inside a hospital in Brooklyn. According to a law enforcement source, shots were reportedly fired inside New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital on 6th Street. We are getting an update from law enforcement officials in New York City this evening as they announced the death of the suspect involved.

New York representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez gave comments on the ICE-involved shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota today, calling the shooting "criminal" and "murder" while on the steps of Capitol Hill.

New York City is preparing for one of its most crowded New Year’s Eve lineups yet, with hotels, rooftops, and cocktail lounges rolling out open bars, skyline views, and late night dance floors. As NYC prepares for the countdown to 2026, we are learning more about the 3,000 pounds of confetti that will be released at midnight on New Year's Eve. We are hearing that the confetti will include thousands of wishes from people who have submitted them.
