Both were operating an Air Canada Express CRJ-900 regional jet that was attempting to land. According to federal investigators, control of the aircraft was transferred from the first officer to the captain just seconds before the incident. It all happened when an Air Canada passenger plane collided with a fire truck, leaving two people dead and dozens more injured. Reports indicate that the pilot and first officer of the Air Canada Express CRJ-900, which was landing in New York on its way from Montreal, died as a result of the incident. Federal officials described the pilots as "two young men at the start of their careers."
