U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson is currently providing more details on the successful passage of the SAVE America Act. The bill aims to prevent noncitizens from voting in elections. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Whip Tom Emmer, Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain, Committee on House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil, and Rep. Chip Roy also joined Speaker Johnson in support of the legislation. The legislation will now have to pass the Senate, where current rules dictate that at least a few Democrats are needed to meet the 60-vote threshold to overcome a filibuster. 

We are hearing more this week after President Donald Trump called for Republicans to "nationalize" voting. Trump made the comments during a signing ceremony in the Oval Office on Tuesday. White House officials have said Trump is primarily interested in defending election integrity. "I want to see elections be honest, and if a state can’t run an election, I think the people behind me should do something about it," Trump told reporters this week, referencing GOP lawmakers. Crockett officially announced her bid for the Senate in 2026 in Texas, speaking to supporters about her plan to turn the traditionally Republican seat to the Democratic party.

We are now learning that U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat who represents a southern portion of the Dallas area, has officially joined the packed race to become the newest U.S. Senator from Texas. Rep. Crockett previously said during a FOX News interview that she would make the decision on running in 2026 after court rulings on new congressional maps and further polling analysis.

We have now learned that Republican Matt Van Epps has won a special election in Tennessee for a seat in the U.S. House. This extends the GOP’s hold on the district. President Donald Trump helped the military veteran and former state general services commissioner from Nashville defeat Democratic state Rep. Aftyn Behn to represent the state’s 7th Congressional District.

We are now learning that after a decade in office, D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser says she will not seek reelection for a fourth term. "It has been the honor of my life to be your Mayor," said Bowser in a post on social media on Tuesday. "Together, we have built a legacy of success of which I am intensely proud. With a grateful heart, I am announcing that I will not seek a fourth term. For the next 12 months, let's run through the tape and keep winning for DC." California voters approved new congressional district boundaries Tuesday, delivering a victory for Democrats in the state-by-state redistricting battle. The approval of Proposition 50 gives Democrats a shot at winning as many as five additional seats, just enough to blunt Texas Republicans’ move to redraw their own maps to pick up five GOP seats at President Donald Trump’s urging.
