According to Chief National Security reporter for Reuters, Phil Stewart, “A senior Iranian cleric involved in the vote to choose a new supreme leader indicated Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's son Mojtaba would be his successor, although a formal announcement was awaited, after Israel threatened whoever was chosen.”

This loss follows a recent attack in Saudi Arabia, according to U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). According to a post from CENTCOM, “Last night, a U.S. service member passed away from injuries received during the Iranian regime’s initial attacks across the Middle East. The service member was seriously wounded at the scene of an attack on U.S. troops in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on March 1.”
