According to our partners at FOX 26 Houston, both GOP candidates were found to be trailing hypothetical head-to-heads against Talarico last month and voters were split then on who was the better challenger for the Austin Democrat.

We are learning this Tuesday that Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has defeated longtime Senator John Cornyn in a heated primary runoff for the United States Senate. Paxton, a prominent ally of President Donald Trump, has now unseated the 20-year incumbent after Trump targeted Cornyn as "VERY disloyal" in the campaign's final days. Paxton now advances to the general election, where he will face Democratic state Representative James Talarico in a contest that could determine control of the Senate.
