We are continuing to watch as election officials are tallying ballots in high-stakes California primary races, with the top-two candidates in each contest advancing to the November general election. The current results show that Republican Steve Hilton and Democrat Xavier Becerra lead the governor's race, while incumbent Karen Bass and reality TV star Spencer Pratt lead the LA mayoral race. LiveNOW’s Andy Mac is speaking with political consultant Rob Stutzman as official results may take days or weeks to become finalized. 

We are learning more as a number of critical primary races are taking place across the county. This includes in New Jersey, where Teresa Priolo with our partners at FOX 5 New York are learning more about the primary in District 7. The AP projects Rebecca Bennett as the winner of the New Jersey Democratic primary. She will face Republican Rep. Tom Kean Jr. in November, who ran unopposed. LiveNOW’s Andy Mac is speaking with longtime campaign consultant Rob Stutzman as it appears to be a tight race in California between Democratic front-runner Xavier Becerra and Republican Steven Hilton. Both are looking to succeed current Governor Gavin Newsom. Gov. Newsom is reportedly keeping a close eye on the election process. Just days ahead of the primary, Newsom signed a bill aimed at increasing accountability around the unlawful seizures of ballots. 

We are now watching as Ken Paxton won a commanding victory in the Republican Senate runoff election. This means the stage is now set for an intense general election between Paxton and his opponent, Democrat James Talarico. Paxton won with 62.6% of the vote, according to the Associated Press. John Cornyn has lost his runoff election against Texas AG Ken Paxton. The current Attorney General of Texas will face Democratic state Rep. James Talarico in the Nov. 3 general election. Cornyn has held the seat since 2002, at one point serving as the Republican minority whip.

According to our partners at FOX 26 Houston, both GOP candidates were found to be trailing hypothetical head-to-heads against Talarico last month and voters were split then on who was the better challenger for the Austin Democrat. 

We are learning this Tuesday that Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has defeated longtime Senator John Cornyn in a heated primary runoff for the United States Senate. Paxton, a prominent ally of President Donald Trump, has now unseated the 20-year incumbent after Trump targeted Cornyn as "VERY disloyal" in the campaign's final days. Paxton now advances to the general election, where he will face Democratic state Representative James Talarico in a contest that could determine control of the Senate. 

We are now learning that Texas Democratic Congressman Al Green has lost his bid for renomination in the primary runoff for the state’s redrawn 18th Congressional District. After more than 20 years in the House, Green was defeated by fellow Representative Christian Menefee, marking the end of his career in Congress. 

LiveNOW’s Mike Pache is speaking with Republican strategist, Jeanette Hoffman, as Texas voters will head back to the polls Tuesday for a series of high-stakes primary runoff elections. "Kind of the Nancy Pelosi approach to stock markets, I'll just point out, which is public record."

We are learning more after the Supreme Court on Friday rejected Virginia's bid to restore a congressional map that would have favored Democrats in the upcoming midterm elections. This comes as the justices have also sided with Republicans in Alabama and Louisiana who have hoped to redo their congressional maps to produce more GOP-leaning seats following the court’s voting rights decision.
