$267 million California hospice fraud takedown

We are watching as California Attorney General Rob Bonta and the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) announce the takedown of a $267 million healthcare fraud ring in the state. Bonta said during a press conference detailing the operation on Thursday that the investigation culminated with search and arrest warrants executed at 12 locations across Southern California. Known as "Operation Skip Trace," law enforcement reportedly seized $757,000 in cash and two firearms during the raids.

We are learning more after a Hawaii anesthesiologist who was accused of trying to murder his wife has now been convicted of the lesser charge of attempted manslaughter. A jury in Honolulu returned the verdict against Gerhardt Konig on Wednesday. The charge, attempted manslaughter based on extreme mental or emotional disturbance, carries up to 20 years in prison. Konig’s attorney, Thomas Otake, said he planned to appeal.

SkyFOX was overhead as the suspect drove on side streets through the city. According to our partners at FOX 11 Los Angeles, the suspect at one point was seen getting out of his vehicle in the Lincoln Heights area to grab what appeared to be an alcoholic beverage from his trunk.
