A three-day outdoor music festival was canceled after the rapper formerly known as Kanye West was barred from entering the United Kingdom.

Ye was scheduled to headline the Wireless Festival in July.

People who purchased tickets to the event will get a refund.

Dig deeper:

After applying for an electronic travel authorization to visit the U.K., Ye’s application was blocked by the government on the grounds that his presence in the country would not be "conducive to the public good."

The block also stemmed from Ye’s past history of antisemitic remarks.

What they're saying:

"Kanye West should never have been invited to headline Wireless," Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a statement posted on social media. "This government stands firmly with the Jewish community, and we will not stop in our fight to confront and defeat the poison of antisemitism. We will always take the action necessary to protect the public and uphold our values."

The other side:

Organizer Festival Republic had stood by Ye. In a statement issued Monday, managing director Melvin Benn urged people to offer the performer "forgiveness and hope."

"We are not giving him a platform to extol opinion of whatever nature, only to perform the songs that are currently played on the radio stations in our country and the streaming platforms in our country and listened to and enjoyed by millions," the statement said.

Ye’s past controversies

The backstory:

Most recently, Ye had released a song last year called "Heil Hitler" and advertised a swastika T-shirt for sale on his website.

Despite a public apology and a request to meet with the U.K. Jewish community to demonstrate personal change, his travel authorization was revoked.

Ye blamed his past behavior on his bipolar disorder, according to a letter he published in The Wall Street Journal. He said his disorder led him to fall into "a four-month long, manic episode of psychotic, paranoid and impulsive behavior that destroyed my life."

British Jewish leaders expressed that genuine remorse must be proven through actions before the rapper is welcomed back to such a prominent stage.
