Tedde Moore, Miss Shields from 'A Christmas Story,' dies at 79: reports

Tedde Moore, the actress who portrayed elementary school teacher Miss Shields in the holiday classic, "A Christmas Story" has died.
According to TMZ, Moore passed away last Wednesday in Huntsville, Ontario, Canada. She was 79.

A Facebook post under her name said the Canadian actress passed away surrounded by family, saying, "Forever the teacher, she had a quote for every occasion and a special way of touching the lives and hearts of everyone she met."
Moore played the strict disciplinarian teacher of the main character Ralphie Parker in the 1983 Christmas classic. She was one of the memorable adults who famously warned him, "you’ll shoot your eye out," after he requested his Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas, taking a snipe at the young boy’s holiday wish list.

The actress also landed roles in other films such as "Second Wind," Murder by Decree," and "Down the Road Again." She later returned to her holiday roots with a role as Mrs. Claus in the 2011 TV movie "Mistletoe Over Manhattan."
She had two children with Canadian film and television director Donald Shebib, a daughter from a previous relationship as well as a foster daughter, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
