Luke Skywalker's lightsaber nets $3.75 million at auction

Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber from the popular movie "The Empire Strikes Back" sold for a staggering $3.75 million at an auction.
The lightsaber, used in the 1980 "Star Wars" sequel by actor Mark Hamill in the fight scene where the villain Darth Vader declares "I am your father," included a severed hand effects rig used for when Vader cut it off.

According to The Associated Press, Heritage Auctions announced the results of its Hollywood & Entertainment Signature Auction on Monday. Heritage shared with the AP that the price was the highest ever fetched for a prop used in a "Star Wars" movie.

Some of the other notable collectors’ items sold at the auction were a Wicked Witch of the West hat worn by actor Margaret Hamilton in 1939’s "The Wizard of Oz" which raked in $550,000 at the auction.
The Associated Press also reported that the cocoa-colored top hat worn by Gene Wilder as the lead character in 1971’s "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" sold for $350,000.
Daenerys Targaryen's chest with dragon eggs inside from the first season of "Game of Thrones" brought in $312,500.
And two rugs from the hit film "The Big Lebowski" were sold at the auction. According to the AP, the rug belonging to Jeff Bridges’ character the Dude went for $350,000.
And the nicer rug that the Dude swipes from his wealthy namesake sold for $375,000. The rugs went for far more than expected, with the initial bidding for the items set at $15,000 a piece.
