'Charlie's Angels' TV series premiered 50 years ago: A look back at past angels

Today marks the 50-year anniversary since "Charlie’s Angels" premiered on TV.
The wildly popular and award-winning series left behind a lasting cultural legacy that spawned several modern movies based on variations of the same iconic characters.
Here’s a look back at the different Alley Cats through the years.

Charlie’s Angels premiered in 1976
The backstory:
The hour-long crime adventure series debuted on Sept. 22, 1976, in a pre-Internet and streaming world when there were just three major television networks.
It was a top-10 hit for ABC in its first two of five seasons, ending in 1981.
Charlie’s Angels 50-year reunion
Local perspective:
In April, the original stars of "Charlie’s Angels" joined forces once more in Hollywood to celebrate the series’ 50th anniversary.
Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd (who replaced Fawcett-Majors after the first season) reunited at PaleyFest LA on April 6.

The cast came together again during the 2026 78th Emmy Awards to honor the late Fawcett, calling the "shiniest angel of all."
