Rivian recalling nearly 100K vehicles over rearview camera problem

Rivian Automotive says it is recalling almost 100,000 trucks and SUVs from model years 2022 through 2027 over a problem that affects vehicle rearview cameras.

The company said on its website that the recall affects 2022-2026 R1T trucks, 2022-2027 R1S SUVs and 2027 R2 SUVs.

On certain R1T, R1S and R2 vehicles, the notice states, a safety alert prompt on the center display may overlap the rearview camera when the vehicle is placed in reverse "in rare instances." The company says the issue could occur while stability control is off and after returning to the vehicle.

Because the rearview image may be obstructed by a notification before the vehicle moves, it may not meet federal safety regulations governing rear visibility.

The company said it is not aware of any customer reports, accidents, injuries or fatalities related to the problem.

Rivian says a software update to solve the problem is available for all potentially affected vehicles at no cost. It estimates that more than 95% of vehicles affected have already installed the update.

Rivian is encouraging all of its owners to update their vehicle over-the-air to install the latest available software if they have not already done so.
